SHANNEN Doherty is using this Breast Cancer Awareness Month to share more of her own personal journey with the deadly disease.
The Beverly Hills 90210 star, 50, is battling stage IV breast cancer, and gave fans an update on Instagram.
“Is it all pretty? NO,” she wrote. “But it’s truthful and my hope in sharing is that we all become more educated, more familiar with what cancer looks like.”
Shannen tearfully revealed her latest cancer fight in a 2020 interview with ABC’s Good Morning America.
“It’s going to come out in a matter of days or a week that — I’m stage four,” she said in the emotional interview.
“So my cancer came back. And that’s why I’m here … I don’t think I’ve processed it.”
She went into greater detail on Instagram: “In 2015 I got diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a mastectomy and did chemo and radiation. I had many nose bleeds from the chemo. Not sure if any of you experienced this. I also was beyond tired.”
The Charmed one also described how she cheered herself up by putting on funny pajamas a friend gave her.
“Did they actually cheer me up? Yes!!,” she exclaimed, adding an LOL. “I looked ridiculous and in that ridiculousness, I was able to laugh at myself.
“Finding humor helped get me thru what seemed impossible. I hope we all find humor in the impossible.”
Shannnen has vowed to “keep fighting to stay alive,” and continues to work while battling the deadly disease.
THE LONG GOODBYE
In September 2020, she revealed plans to record goodbye video messages for her loved ones while her fight raged on.
“There are things I need to say to my mom. I want my husband [Kurt Iswarienko] to know what he’s meant to me,” she explained, adding: “But whenever it comes time for me to do it, it feels so final. It feels like you’re signing off, and I’m not signing off.”
Shannen married her husband Kurt – a photographer – back in 2011. Together, they hope to continue to raise awareness about the importance of self-care.
“I hope I encourage people to get mammograms, to get regular checkups, to cut thru the fear and face whatever might be in front of you.”For breast cancer awareness month, I’d like to.
