While we saw Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto welcome Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Hobbs into his crew and family in the Fast & Furious franchise, that’s really not the case off-screen. The two stars have had a long-standing feud.
It first began with an Instagram post in 2016, which saw Johnson call out an unnamed cast member for being unprofessional on set. It wasn’t long before rumours spread that the unnamed person was Diesel.
The duo have not been able to see eye-to-eye ever since, with The Rock having previously suggested that he would not return to the Fast franchise. He later branched out into the spinoff film, Hobbs & Shaw.
During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the Jungle Cruise star confirmed that the two had met up to try and clear the air.
“Well, there was a meeting. I wouldn’t call it a peaceful meeting. I would call it a meeting of clarity. He and I had a good chat in my trailer and it was out of that chat that it really became just crystal clear that we are two separate ends of the spectrum. And agreed to leave it there,” Johnson said.
He also admitted that it wasn’t right for him to call out his then co-star publicly: “I meant what I said. For sure. I mean what I say when I say it. But to express it publicly was not the right thing to do.
“But, yeah, it wasn’t my best day, sharing that. I shouldn’t have shared that. Because at the end of the day, that goes against my DNA. I don’t share things like that.”
The 49-year-old also revealed that he only signed on for The Fate Of The Furious, which was released in 2017, after confirming that he would not have any scenes with Diesel. “I wanted to forgo drama. I thought that that was the best thing to do. For everybody,” he shared.
