Prince Harry’s cousin has always been close to the Duke of Sussex providing him with support every time he came back to the UK following his bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey five months ago. The pair have reportedly always been close, and the tight bond between them has now led to speculations that the ties with Prince Harry’s wider family could be repaired.

The Duke of Sussex came back to the UK twice in the last five months.

He attended Prince Phillip’s funeral in April, and was present for the unveiling of a statue to commemorate his late mother for what would have been her 60th birthday in July.

On both occasions, Prince Harry received heavy attention from the media and was under a shroud of headlines generated by his tell-all interview.

However, it would have been much more difficult for the prince had he not received support from Princess Eugenie.

After arriving from LA, Prince Harry went straight to Frogmore Cottage to form a bubble with Princess Eugenie, her husband Jack and baby August.

Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate was renovated by the Sussexes who lived there with a new-born Archie.

A source told People Magazine: “Frogmore Cottage continues to be the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ residence in the UK.

“And they are delighted to be able to open up their home to Princess Eugenie and Jack as they start their own family.”

Princess Eugenie appears to be one of them. She wrote on Instagram: “To celebrate dear Meghan’s 40th birthday I’m contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to support women re-entering the workforce.”

On top of Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry having always been close, the princess is also a longtime friend of Meghan’s.

In 2016, when news of Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan broke, it was Princess Eugenie and Jack who were with them on holiday in Toronto and were later spotted at a Halloween party in Soho House.

They spent time together as couples when they were first dating, going on double dates in Toronto and in London, and were said to have been instrumental in helping to keep their relationship a secret.

Princess Eugenie has also been touted as having originally set the Sussexes up.

In the Oprah interview, Meghan said: “Eugenie and I had known each other before I had known Harry, so that was comfortable […] We’re friends with them as a couple.”

One source has claimed that Princess Eugenie is perhaps the only member of the Royal Family who truly knows Meghan.

The source reportedly said: “Eugenie knows them better than any of the Royals in a way. She was there from the beginning.”

The Telegraph has also reported that while some members of the family may have watched or listened to the Duke’s interviews with a degree of horror, and struggled to make sense of his often damning revelations, Eugenie may have been more sympathetic.

The paper claimed that Prince Harry’s cousin will also have heard her cousin’s perspective on what has been a tumultuous few months for the Windsors.

Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry spent much of their childhoods together.

Several family photos show them playing on ski slopes and on summer holidays.

As they grew up, they moved in similar circles. As adults, they share many A-list friends, including the Clooneys.

Princess Eugenie has always been close to Prince Harry’s significant girlfriends.

She is friends with Prince Harry’s ex Chelsy Davy and it was Princess Eugenie who first introduced Prince Harry to Cressida Bonas, whom he dated for two years.

There are five years between the cousins, but they got married and became parents at the same time, bringing them even closer.

The Sussexes are very likely to return to the UK next year to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in the summer, with events planned around the country.

And, if Prince Harry and his family are to be part of the celebrations, perhaps after a turbulent few months, Princess Eugenie the peacemaker can help bring her favourite cousin back into the fold.
